A Challenge for Society

Posted by Chris DeMarco on Thursday, April 19th, 2007 at 7:10 pm

I am really struggling lately with how messed up society is with our relationships with each other. This is partially based on how people interact with each other, but more importantly because of all the politics and stigmas associated with them.

Our society places so much “risk,” for various reasons, on even just being with people, that it almost prevents us from doing so. It greatly hinders our relationships with others and is slowly making us a people more and more separated from one another.

Why is it so hard for people to just accept each other despite differences?

Why, when you go to a church that seats a thousand people, yet only 50 are present, are they spread out all the way across the church?

Why is it so hard to tell someone that you love him or her?

And, after all this, then why are we so afraid of what other people think of us? Why do we hold ourselves back from being ourselves or saying what we need to say…because we are afraid of what others may think of us, or even worse, what that person may think?

Why does the church have a bunch of stupid regulations that prohibit people from talking to each other alone because of age? Why are people distorting this even to the degree that choirs can’t have mixed young and older people? Why is everybody else punished for stupid things some other people have done?
